Ascent Education began with two school friends, Andrew Darwich and Michael Saba.
Andrew’s perspective on education was shaped early. In his first years of high school, he faced setbacks that showed him just how important structure and consistency are. By Year 10, he discovered that discipline and a rigorous study system were the real keys to success, and from there his results lifted sharply. A mentor in Years 11–12 not only coached him through the HSC but also showed him how powerful guidance and accountability can be. Andrew went on to graduate in Law and Economics, and today he carries those lessons into Ascent. He not only mentors students but also ensures our tutors understand the importance of building habits and discipline alongside teaching content, so that students leave with more than marks and gain lifelong skills.
Michael’s journey took a different path. He faced a difficult early life, which demanded that he shoulder responsibility well beyond his years. To help his family, he committed himself to hard work and discipline, and in the process developed sharp skills in entrepreneurship, logistics, and business operations. By learning how to create opportunities and build reliable systems, he was able to support those around him when it mattered most. Now, Michael uses those same skills to help drive Ascent’s growth, ensuring the experience for both parents and students is smooth, consistent, and grounded in care.
What began as a phone conversation, Andrew’s idea of a tutoring business and Michael’s instant “let’s do it,” became months of late nights, countless name ideas, and finally one that captured it all: Ascent Education.
Finding the right name took more than one hundred ideas, weeks of thought, and countless conversations. When “Ascent Education” finally came, it fit perfectly.
“Ascent” represents progress in every dimension: confidence, knowledge, wisdom, skill, and growth. It captures what we want for every student, to move upwards step by step until they reach the goals they once thought were out of reach.
