Ascent Education is committed to the safety, participation, and empowerment of all children and young people. We have zero tolerance for child abuse and harm, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated very seriously, acted upon consistently with our policies and procedures, and reported to the appropriate authorities in line with NSW law.
We are committed to creating an environment where children and young people feel safe, respected, and empowered. We actively promote child safety and wellbeing by:
Upholding the 10 Child Safe Standards under section 8C of the Children’s Guardian Act 2019 (NSW).
Embedding child safety and wellbeing into our organisational culture, policies, and practices.
Ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard, respected, and acted upon in decisions that affect them.
Requiring all staff and contractors to hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and comply with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012 (NSW).
Providing tutors and staff with clear child safety guidance and resources at induction, including mandatory reading of Ascent Education’s Child Safe Policy, Code of Conduct, and relevant NSW child protection information. Tutors are required to acknowledge in writing that they have read and understood these documents, and agree to comply with their obligations under the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 (NSW), including mandatory reporting responsibilities.
Actively identifying and managing risks to child safety across all activities, including online environments.
This Statement of Commitment applies to all staff, volunteers, contractors, students, and visitors within Ascent Education.
Child safety is everyone’s responsibility. Together, we are committed to ensuring that every child and young person in our care is safe, respected, and able to thrive.
